Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a consultation appointment?

An initial consultation appointment is required to gather all the necessary information so we can organize the best possible treatment plan for you as well as ensure appropriate medications are prescribed or ceased prior to procedures.

Please call our rooms on (03) 9654 4224 to make an appointment for all consultation locations.  Our friendly practice staff will speak with you to ascertain what type of appointment you require and then provide you with a time, date and location for your appointment, as well as an estimated fee.  We will send a link to your mobile phone to complete your patient registration form prior to your appointment, alternatively you can complete the attached and bring with you to your appointment or fill in the form when you arrive.  Please allow time to complete paperwork prior to your allocated consultation time.

Can I cancel or move appointments?

The unexpected can occur, but should you need to cancel or change your appointment, please call and give us as much notice as possible, ideally more than 48 hours prior.

Do I need a referral to see Dr Gibson?

Dr Gibson is a medical specialist and as such you need a referral from a dentist, orthodontist, general practitioner or medical specialist.  With a valid referral we will claim part of your consultation fee with Medicare for your rebate.  Your private health insurance may be able to be used for procedures in our rooms or in hospital, which our staff will discuss with you.

What do I need to bring to my consultation appointment?

You will need to bring:

  • Your referral letter
  • Any relevant x-rays, MRI, CT, etc
  • Your Medicare card
  • Private Health Insurance details
  • Diary to plan for surgery date

Can I be treated in a public hospital?

Our clinic is a private practice and as such Dr Gibson operates in private hospitals.

Which private hospitals does Dr Gibson perform surgery at?

  • Epworth Freemasons Private Hospital,  East Melbourne
  • Epworth Freemasons Day Procedure Centre, East Melbourne
  • Glenferrie Private Hospital, Hawthorn
  • Mulgrave Private Hospital, Mulgrave.
  • Peninsula Private Hospital, Frankston
  • The Avenue, Windsor

Our Fees

At your initial consultation, fees for the surgery, hospital and anaesthetist will be fully discussed with our practice staff.  A printed estimate of fees including the item numbers for your procedure will be provided together with any other information required. Patients who are uninsured will also be provided with cost estimates for hospital procedures.

Medicare does not cover the surgical fee for dental procedures, therefore procedures such as extraction of teeth or placement of dental implants will be claimable through “Dental Extras” cover with your private health fund if applicable. Non-dental procedures such as bone grafting, removal of cysts, biopsy and jaw osteotomies will attract a Medicare rebate as well as being claimable from your private health insurance.

TAC/WorkCover patients

Currently we are not treating patients whose treatment will be paid by TAC or WorkCover. Should you wish to be seen as a private patient, we will be happy to provide receipts for your treatment. All treatment needs to be paid in advance and there will be an out-of-pocket cost if claiming through TAC/WorkCover.
